Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri called Wednesday for a parliamentary session to elect a new President on April 23.
The session is set to take place at noon next Wednesday.
Berri contacted Cardinal Beshara Rai, informed him of his decision, and the two discussed the presidential election, the National News Agency reported.
Rai had repeatedly called on Berri to call for a Parliament session over the presidential election.
The two-month constitutional deadline to elect a new head of state for Lebanon started on March 25.
The six-year term of President Michel Sleiman ends on May 25.
