The plan will go into effect on Monday.
Currently about 54 percent of childbirths in the country are done through C-sections which are considerably higher than global average.
Major concerns about C-section is that it can increase a woman’s risk for a number of physical problems – ranging from less common but potentially life-threatening problems like severe bleeding, blood clots and emergency hysterectomy to much more common problems like longer-lasting and more severe pain and infection.
“Iran stands at the second ranking of Caesarean births among the world countries and we are trying to reduce this figure to 35 percent,” Aghjani told the IRIB on Sunday.
Aghjani said there will be an increase in pay to all medical teams and staff who perform vaginal births.
