TEHRAN – Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati says he believes that book censorship should be applied in the country.
“A state organization like the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance cannot allow any book with any content get published without our supervision,” Jannati told the Shargh newspaper in an interview published on Sunday.
The culture minister had previously pledged to help relax book censorship in Iran under the new government of Hassan Rouhnai.
He said the Council of the Cultural Revolution has tasked the ministry to supervise books, he added.
