TEHRAN – The governor of the Central Bank of Iran has said that more than $1.2 billion of the foreign revenues of the National Iranian Oil Company and its subsidiaries, which had been in the accounts of detained tycoon Babak Zanjani, has been identified and transferred to the government’s account.
On the sidelines of a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Wednesday, CBI Governor Valiollah Seif said that other properties and accounts that belong to Zanjani will be identified in the near future.
Zanjani was arrested on financial corruption charges in January.
Also, he has been blacklisted by the European Union and his accounts were frozen by the United States Treasury Department in April 2013 for taking measures to circumvent the sanctions imposed on Iran.
