TEHRAN – The Iranian government will use the resources from the National Development Fund (NDF) to finance the project to save the Zayanderud River, Vice-President for Parliamentary Affairs Majid Ansari announced on Sunday.
The largest river in central Iran, the Zayanderud has significant flow all year long, unlike many of Iran's rivers which are seasonal. However, the river has been drying up over the past three years, especially that part of the river which runs through parks in the city of Isfahan.
Ansari said the money from the NDF will be used to finance projects aimed at tackling the issue of water shortage in Iran and one of the main projects will be Zayanderud.
“The government is very determined to tackle the problem of water shortage in the country and President Hassan Rouhani is closely monitoring the situation of the river,” Ansari told reporters in Isfahan.
He said the results of the plans devised by the government for Zayanderud will be announced soon.
