In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Leader said that the general policies on population are being announced in view of the importance of the size of the population, which helps promote national might, and in order to make up for the country’s declining population growth rate and birthrate.
Ayatollah Khamenei also said that officials must take the general policies on population into account when devising comprehensive plans for the country’s economic, social, and cultural progress.
Increasing the birthrate, facilitating the process of getting married, promoting the culture of having more children, promoting the culture of marrying at a young age, offering financial support to young married couples, providing adequate insurance coverage for the cost of giving birth, providing adequate maternity benefits, providing treatment for infertile couples, promoting the Islamic-Iranian lifestyle as an alternative to the Western lifestyle, and taking measures to increase life expectancy and deal with social issues, such as drug addiction and environmental pollution, are some of the main policies that have been mentioned in the statement.
