In the best-of-five series, which was held at the full-packed Azadi Hall in Tehran on Monday, the Iranian basketball team defeated the Lebanese outfit 96-86.
Mahram’s Samad Nikkhakh Bahrami stepped up with 28 points, 6 boards and 3 assists to lead the winners.
“We defeated the Asian champion and deserved to win the WABA title. I am happy since we made the Iranian people happy. From now on, we are going to win the Iran Basketball League,” Mahram coach Mostafa Hashemi said in the post-match news conference.
The West Asian Basketball League (WABL), between 1998 and 2010 known as the WABA Champions Cup, takes place every year and is organized by the West Asia Basketball Association.
It also serves as a qualifying tournament for the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, which will be held in Beirut, Lebanon from June 2 to June 10, 2012.
