TEHRAN – Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has called on Western countries to adopt a “just” approach toward the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program.
 
Davutoglu made the remarks during a press conference in Istanbul on Saturday, which was held on the sidelines of a ministerial meeting on the Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Initiative launched by Turkey, Germany, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Poland, and Chile.
 
The one-day conference opened on Saturday.
 
Davutoglu’s comments came two days before Iran and the 5+1 group (the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany), start a new round of talks in Moscow.
 
Tehran and world powers held a new round of talks in Istanbul on April 14, breaking a 15-month hiatus in talks.
 
They also met in Baghdad on May 23 and 24.
 
The Turkish foreign minister criticized certain Western countries for adopting a duplicitous approach toward nuclear weapons states, saying that the West should “fairly deal” with the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program.
 
The “positive” and “constructive” cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is seeking to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, with the International Atomic Energy Agency is being ignored, the top Turkish diplomat added.
 
However, he called for the measures necessary to be taken to help demonstrate the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear activities.
 
In addition, Davutoglu reiterated Turkey’s opposition to nuclear weapons in every corner of the world, including the Middle East region.
