Annan, Salehi discuss Syria ahead of Geneva meeting

c_330_235_16777215_0___images_stories_edim_02_br1(27).jpgTEHRAN - During a telephone conversation late on Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and Kofi Annan, the UN-Arab League joint special envoy on Syria, discussed the Syrian crisis, one day ahead of the meeting of the “Action Group on Syria” in Geneva. 
 
Annan emphasized Iran’s important role in developments in Syria, and Salehi expressed hope that the conference would help restore peace and security in the Arab country. 
 
Salehi also reiterated Iran’s opposition to foreign inference in Syria’s internal affairs. 
 
It was agreed that both sides continue their consultation on the Syrian issue.
