| Iran’s electricity generation grows 3.84%: report |

 TEHRAN - Iran's electricity generation has increased 3.84 percent year-on-year to 98,805 gigawatt-hours since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2013), IRNA reported.
Thermal power plants accounted for the lion’s share of the output, generating 92,451 gigawatt-hours of electricity.
Iran is currently exchanging electricity with Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey.
In May, Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Mohammad Behzad said Iran aims to export 1 million gigawatt-hours of electricity in the current Iranian year, and has signed several contracts with neighboring countries in this regard.
In January, Managing Director of Iran Power Generation and Transmission Company (TAVANIR) Homayoun Hayeri said the country ranks first in the Middle East in terms of electricity generation.
He noted that Iran is the largest exporter and importer of electricity in the Middle East and is exchanging power with many countries in the region.
The Iranian official also pointed out that 99 percent of the equipment required for power generation, transfer and distribution is domestically designed and produced.
