TEHRAN – The Republic of Azerbaijan welcomes the establishment of the Iranian trade center in Baku, Azeri Deputy Minister of Economic Development Niazi Safarov said this week.

In a meeting in Baku with Hossein Pirmoazzen, the chairman of the chamber of commerce of the Iranian province of Ardebil, Safarov stated that Azeri traders will now be able to satisfy their needs through buying goods from the trade center, IRNA reported on Friday.

In January, Iran and Azerbaijan agreed to set up a new border crossing point in order to facilitate trade and travel by Iranian and Azeri citizens.

Since the two countries have over $500 million in trade annually and one million travelers cross the Iran-Azerbaijan border every year, the establishment of a new border customs post will accelerate customs formalities and boost trade between Iran and Azerbaijan, the officials said.
