|Iran’s NDF allocates $1.2b to agricultural sector||
TEHRAN – Iran’s National Development Fund (NDF) has allocated 30 trillion rials (about $1.2 billion based on the U.S. dollar official exchange rate of 24,800 rials) to the implementation of agricultural projects, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced on Monday.
The Ministry of Agriculture has earmarked 2 trillion rials (about $80 million) in excess of approved 1.5 trillion rials (about $60 million) budget for the agricultural insurance fund, Rouhani told a nationwide congress of the House of Farmer.
On Monday, Iranian First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri said that assets of the NDF amount to $32 billion.
The NDF assets amounted to $49.9 billion in the past Iranian calendar year. Iran transfers 20 percent of its oil revenues to the NDF.
An Agriculture Ministry official, Naser Tavakkoli, has said that Iran plans to increase agricultural exports to 118 million tons in the current Iranian calendar year, which began on March 21, compared to 107 million tons in the past year.
Iran's agricultural exports grew last year, with pistachio and saffron sales almost doubling, despite Western sanctions on trade with the country.
