|PPP praises Nawaz for restoring IP project||
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab President Manzoor Wattoo has welcomed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s statement to resume work on the Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline (IP) project and said that the government should not delay this project any longer.
The PPP Punjab president said in a statement on Monday that former president Asif Ali Zardari had paid several visits to Iran and put in a lot of efforts to finalize the project jointly inaugurated by the presidents of Iran and Pakistan in March 2013.
He said that wastage of time in undertaking the project by the present government not only hurt the endeavors to overcome energy crisis in the country but also annoyed the neighborly Islamic country.
Wattoo said that the IP project had to be completed by December 2014 and that the imported gas was enough to produce over 2,000 MW of electricity.
He said that the vision of connecting China and India with the gas pipeline was the real big possibility of earning huge foreign exchange on account of transit charges besides promotion of diplomatic and strategic interests of Pakistan.
The economic interdependence of Iran, Pakistan and India would undoubtedly accelerate the process of normalization of relations between the Pakistan and India based on mutual respect, he said, adding that the completion of the project would surely strengthen relations between Pakistan and Iran.
Wattoo expressed the hope that with the undertaking of the IPGP project, both the countries would improve their relations on a fast track for the benefit of their people.
