|Iran must join WTO to meet economic development goals: official||
TEHRAN – Iran must join the World Trade Organization to meet its economic development goals, the president of Iran’s National Center for Globalization Studies, Alireza Moaiyeri, stated.
To achieve the goal of turning into the key economic power in the region, which has been envisaged in the country’s 20-Year Outlook Plan, joining the WTO seems to be necessary, IRNA quoted Moaiyeri as saying on Tuesday.
He made the remarks in an international conference on UNDP’s Post-2015 Development Agenda, which was held in Tehran on Tuesday.
UNDP launched an unprecedented global conversation through which people can help shape the future development agenda that will build on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) after 2015.
Three out of the eight millennium development targets – on poverty, slums and water – have been met ahead of the 2015 deadline, but much remains to be done. The future development framework – the Post-2015 agenda – should build on the lessons learned from working toward achieving the MDGs, which have been providing the structure for the UN’s development activities since the Millennium Summit in 2000.
