|Housing minister visits quake-stricken regions in Ilam Province||
TEHRAN - Iranian Transport and Urban Development Minister Abbas Akhoundi visited the quake-stricken regions of Abdanan in the western province of Ilam on Wednesday, the ISNA news agency reported.
The quake, measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale, hit the province on early Monday. It happened at a depth of around 10 kilometers (6 miles) in an area 36 kilometers southeast of Abdanan.
Ilam governor Mohammad-Reza Morvarid said on Wednesday that the earthquake caused about 1.16 trillion rials (about $37.4 million) in damages.
17,000 residential units have been damaged by about 10 to 100 percent in Abdanan, Dehloran and Mourmori, the Mehr news agency quoted Morvarid as saying.
The earthquake has also damaged roads, water, electricity and telecommunication facilities, the governor said, adding 415 people were also injured in the Monday earthquake.
The epicenter of the quake was three kilometers away from the town of Mourmori and 41 kilometers away from Dehloran.
Eight villages in the vicinity of Mourmori were damaged greatly.
The people in the region had mostly evacuated houses as quakes with less force had shaken the region one day before.
