altThe production of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in Iran has jumped by 54 percent in the first four months of the current Iranian year which began March 21, an Iranian energy official says.

Mehdi Jamshidi Dana, a manager for production control at National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), said on Monday that the oil-rich country produced more than 466,000 tons of LPG between March 21 and July 22, showing a 54-percent growth compared to the corresponding figure last year, Fars news agency reported.

Jamshidi Dana noted that about 44 trillion cubic meters of natural gas were processed in the country's refinery plants for pumping into domestic gas network during the same period.

The official added that Iran's petrochemical plants also produced 304,000 tons of ethane gas and 270,000 tons of sulfur during the four-month period.

Iran, which sits on the world's second largest natural gas reserves after Russia, is making efforts to boost its gas production by expanding foreign and domestic investments in energy projects, especially in its South Pars gas field.
