Iran enjoys lowest child malnutrition rate in region: World Bank

TEHRAN — The World Bank has announced that Iran has the best situation in respect of lowering the malnutrition levels of children among the Middle East and North Africa states.
According to the new report of the World Bank titled “MENA Regional Strategy: Response to Recent Developments, update 2011”, the Islamic Republic of Iran has done the most successful activities in combating the poverty and malnutrition of children.
The report showed that Iran has the lowest rate (4%) of “chronic malnutrition among children under 5 years old” among all countries of Middle East and North Africa region.
While the average rate of chronic malnutrition among children under 5 years old in the MENA is 32%, in the South Asia 48%, and in the East Asia is 22 percent, the figure of Iran (4%) is very remarkable and indicates Islamic Republic success in fighting poverty and improving nutrition of the children.
According to the report, Tunisia, Qatar and Bahrain are respectively placed in high ranks next to Iran in respect of chronic malnutrition among children under 5 years old.
Yemen has the worst situation on this regard because about 60% of its children under 5 years suffer from chronic malnutrition, the report said.
