In an interview with the Fars news agency, Mahmud Mozaffar said the IRCS was one of the first national societies which rushed to the help of the famine-stricken people in Somalia. Mozaffar went on to say that no Western state including the U.S. has sent food or drug aid to Somalia so far. Only countries such as Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait have sent NGO groups to Somalia, he added. He said Turkey has only sent a small plane carrying 8 tons of food along with a team to evaluate the situation there.
