altA British cancer charity group has suggested that doctors should make sure that exercise is a part of the treatment for all cancer patients rather than following the traditional regimen of advising rest.

The Macmillan Cancer Support has come out with a report titled ‘Move More’ in which it states that of the 2 million cancer survivors in the country, more than 1.6 million are not fit enough and are physically inactive.

Instead cancer patients should opt for moderate physical exercise for at least 150 minutes every week. The report states that regularly exercising will help cancer patients to overcome effects of cancer treatment such as weight gain and fatigue.

“The evidence review shows that physical exercise does not increase fatigue during treatment, and can in fact boost energy after treatment. It can also lower their chances of getting heart disease and osteoporosis”, the report said, adding that exercise may also help in preventing cancer from returning.
