"The epidemiological situation of cholera is stable and safe in Iran," Dastjerdi said. Yet, she underlined that Iran has taken the necessary precautions to avoid public health risks. For example, selling vegetables to local restaurants is prohibited to prevent spreading the disease, the minister went on to say. Among the main causes of the disease she mentioned; using contaminated well water, applying wastewater to the vegetable fields, as well as employing illegal immigrants at agricultural facilities who are living in unsanitary conditions.
