These people will add as many as 65 million to the country´s population of obese adults and the combined costs of treating preventable diseases associated with this obesity will be $48-66 billion. World-wide, 500 million adults are obese and another 1.5 billion are overweight. 170 million children are classified as overweight or obese. In some regions, obesity has even eclipsed tobacco as the biggest preventable cause of disease.
