Lebanon's Public Health Minister Ali Hassan Khalil said his country is keen to endorse an agreement with Tehran on cooperation in health, treatment and pharmaceutical areas.

Speaking in a meeting with the President of Iran's Red Crescent Society (IRCS) Abol-Hassan Faqih and Iranian Ambassador to Beirut Qazanfar Roknabadi on Tuesday, the Lebanese minister appreciated Iran's aids and medical services to his nation, specially during the 33-day war in Summer 2006.

He further pointed to Iran's giant progress in health and treatment, and expressed the hope that the two sides would sign an agreement on joint collaboration in medical and pharmaceutical areas in the near future.

The minister also mentioned that his country is preparing a national plan for confronting natural disasters, and expressed willingness to use Iran's experience and expertise in the field.

Also in a separate meeting, the head of Lebanon's Red Cross voiced pleasure in the extensive cooperation between his organization and the IRCS, and voiced full preparedness to take any possible measure to further expand ties and cooperation between the two sides.

Iran and Lebanon enjoy cordial relations and have further expanded these ties in recent years.

The two sides have exchanged several delegations of high-ranking officials in the last two years.

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad paid a landmark visit to Beirut last October.

The two countries signed a cluster of economic agreements during the President Ahmadinejad's visit.
