A study by British researchers at the University College London Institute of Ophthalmology suggests that an active lifestyle reduces glaucoma risk. The findings show that moderate physical exercise over 15 years is linked to a 25 percent reduced risk of high ocular perfusion pressure, which can lead to glaucoma. "It appears ocular perfusion pressure is largely determined by cardiovascular fitness. We cannot comment on the cause, but there is certainly an association between a sedentary lifestyle and factors which increase glaucoma risk," Dr. Foster says.
