15% of diabetic patients face limb amputations

TEHRAN — A Tehran Medical Sciences University professor says about 15% of diabetic patients face amputations. 

However, Mohammad Reza Mohajeri Tehrani says amputation can be prevented in 80 percent of cases by giving simple training to patients. 

In an interview with the Fars news agency, Mohajeri Tehrani says after car accidents the most common cause of limb amputation in the world is related to diabetes mellitus.

He said about 15 percent of diabetic patients face diabetic foot ulcers during their life time, and 15 percent of them have limb amputations.
