In a meeting with Somali Charge d’Affaires Khalifa Kanye Moosa on Tuesday Rostami said Iran is also ready to establish health care camp in Kenya-Somalia to give services to famine-stricken Somali people, according to the Fars news agency. According to the latest reports, 400,000 Somali refugees are now moving toward the Kenyan border. Rostami said Iran can directly send food aid to Somalia if security conditions are met, otherwise the cargo can be delivered to Somali officials. Rostami went on to say that the IRCS has so far provided 40 tons of food items to be sent to Somalia. However, he said this is all dependent on diplomatic efforts by Somali officials. The African Development Bank says famine in the Horn of Africa region has been caused by climate change and a collective failure to end the Somali civil war. 10 million people in the Horn of Africa are now in need of food aid, two million children are malnourished and half a million are in danger of starvation.
