Iran, world’s 11th wheat exporter
Tehran Times Economic Desk
TEHRAN, Feb. 05 (MNA) – By exporting one million tons of wheat surplus in 2007, Iran ranked 11th in the world in terms of the volume of export, IRNA quoted Iran’s Agricultural Jihad Minister Mohammad-Reza Eskandari as saying here on Monday.
The country attained self-sufficiency in the wheat yield by harvesting over 15 million tons of wheat in the past year, he added.
Eskandari added that Iran was also among the world’s top ten producers of animal-based products and farm and garden crops.
He anticipated that by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2008) over $2.5 billion worth of agricultural products would be exported.
