Iran will not bow to U.S. threats

DUSHANBE (IRNA) --Iran’s Ambassador to Tajikistan said here Friday Iran would never yield to the U.S. or other countries’ threats.

Ali-Asghar She’rdoust made the comment in an interview with Dushanbe-based ‘Mellat’ (Nation) weekly, in response to a question, whether Iran is powerful enough to resist against a new set of Western sanctions.

He added, “Iran is definitely strong enough to resist against such sanctions, although we might face certain difficulties, which would of course be quite natural.”

The Iranian ambassador said, “Such sanctions are not a matter of serious concern for the great Iranian nation, and cannot break the strong dam of their resistance, since the Iranians have experienced the likes of them during the course of the past decades and now, too, they are potentially strong enough to ward off the new problems.”

Iran’s political representative here said that the people’s unity, Tehran’s strategic position, the country’s access to huge oil and gas resources, and the presence of talented and highly educated Iranians inside the country and abroad are among the factors that would assist the Iranian nation to solve such problems.

She’rdoust added, “I, who am meanwhile the Secretary of the Supreme Council for Iranians Abroad, know fairly well that the Iranians in other countries, side by side those who live in Iran, love their country from the bottom of their hearts, and defend their country regardless of their different mentalities and viewpoints.”

He said, “They might sometimes be unaware of the power theyhave, but this is a great potential that can under crisis conditions assist our country.”

The ambassador added, “We Iranians can solve problems easier than the world assumes, and we would definitely leave behind these problems, too, prestigiously because we believe the human beings come up with genius solutions at times of encountering hardships.”

The envoy said, “Ever since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, being faced with various types of hardships Iran managed to achieve great advancement, and now, too, despite all the existing sanctions, the Iranians are progressing at an amazingly high speed.”
