Iran’s “Ashura” puppet show to go on stage in Italy

TEHRAN -- Deputy Culture Minister for Artistic Affairs Mohammad-Hossein Imani-Khoshkhu met with Italian deputy culture minister last week and proposed to stage Behruz Gharibpur’s opera puppet show “Ashura” in Italy.

In a press release by Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, the two parties discussed boosting artistic and cultural relations and talked about the historical background of Iran and joint projects in preserving Iran’s cultural heritage.

The Italian deputy, whose name was not mentioned in the press release, said that cinema is one of the means which can play a major role in introducing Iran’s rich heritage of art and culture to the Italian nation.

Imani-Khoshkhu also pointed to the potentials of Iranian artists in recent years and said, “The various fields of music, theater, and visual arts can assist in developing bilateral ties. Italian artists can introduce their treasured artworks through the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, while Iranian artists can hold their exhibits in Italy.”

The Italian deputy also agreed to help stage a performance of the Islamic Revolution Symphony by Majid Entezami at the Rome Opera House in near future.

He also invited Iran to take part in the theater festival in Naples, while Imani-Khoshkhu invited Italian troupes to participate in Iran’s Fajr music and theater festivals.
