Solana heads to Middle East

TEHRAN -- EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) Javier Solana will travel to the Middle East today.
During his four-day trip, Solana will visit Syria, the Palestinian Territories, Egypt and Lebanon.
The event takes place in the context of the major push by the international community towards a resolution of the Israeli-Arab conflict, the Press Cabinet of the European Council announced on Friday.
According to the council’s report, a copy of which was sent to the Tehran Times daily, Solana will meet Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Foreign Minister Walid al-Mouallem in Damascus today.
He will also hold talks with Israeli President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, and Kadima Chairwoman Tzipi Livni as well as Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, on Monday.
In Beirut, on Tuesday, the EU High Representative for CFSP will meet with representatives of the Lebanese authorities, including President Michel Sleiman, Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri, and Foreign Minister Fawzi Salloukh.
On Tuesday evening he will be in Cairo and have a meeting with Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa.
On Wednesday he will meet Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Minister Omar Soleiman.
