Iran, Bahrain to resume gas talks
Tehran Times Economic Desk

TEHRAN, Oct. 21 (MNA) – Bahrain’s oil and gas minister said that the Persian Gulf nation plans to restart talks with Iran to import natural gas.

The Mehr News Agency quoted Abdul-Hussein Mirza as saying that, “negotiations with Tehran would resume soon.”

He didn’t provide further details.

Previously Iran and Bahrain held a few rounds of energy talks. The two countries were discussing Bahrain’s $4 billion investment in the development plans of South Pars phases 15 and 16.

Bahrain seeks importing 1 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day from Iran for 25 years.

The talks were halted in February due to political tensions between the two countries.

Bahrain needs additional gas to fuel a growing demand for electricity.

The energy industry comprises most of Bahrain’s economic cooperation with Iran. In 2007, Manama and Tehran discussed increasing annual trade to $1 billion per year and bolstering their joint health and tourism cooperation, and the two countries proposed a large purchase of Iranian oil to help fuel Bahraini development in May 2008.
