Iranian, Turkish presidents hold talks

ISTANBUL – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul here on Monday discussed bilateral relations as well as regional issues.
Ahmadinejad, who was in Istanbul to attend the OIC economic summit, described Tehran-Ankara relations as satisfactory and called for further expansion of cooperation in trade, transportation and investment.
Ahmadinejad also stressed the need to boost cooperation between Islamic countries.
Gul highlighted the need to strengthen political ties between the two countries.
Both presidents were also going to hold talks on Afghanistan and Palestine on the sidelines of the conference.
Ahmadinejad, in a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan late Sunday, called for the implementation of economic agreements signed between Tehran and Ankara.
