GUANGZHOU – Iranian discus thrower Ehsan Haddadi says that he was determined to win the gold medal at the 18th Asian Athletic Championship.

Hadadi, the Asian record holder, finished in first place in the competition which was held in Guangzhou, China from November 10 to 14 .

He hurled the discus 64.83 meters to win his third continental title in a row in the men’s discus throw.

“I didn’t want to participate in the competitions due to my hand injury. I was worried about aggravating my injury. I took part in the event because the Iran Athletic Federation had registered my name as a participant,” Haddadi told the Mehr News Agency on Sunday.

“I only participated in the event to win the gold medal. I was not interested in setting a record at the Asian championship,” he added
