Former ISI chief warns Britain about new gambit

TEHRAN (Press TV) -- The former chief of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) says Britain is proposing reconciliation with the Pakistan-based pro-Taliban militants because it is losing the war in Afghanistan.

Hamid Gul said on Monday that the casualty rate is skyrocketing for British troops in Afghanistan.

He went on to say that no “moderate member” can be found among the militants to come to the negotiating table.

Britain is deceiving its people with such a proposal and London should understand that the pro-Taliban militants are at war with them and will never reconcile, the retired general added.

Gul said he believes Britain can only solve its problems by ordering a total withdrawal of all troops from Afghanistan.

Earlier on Saturday, a leaked memo revealed that the British government is seeking to hold talks with leaders of the pro-Taliban militants in Pakistan.

The leaked memo proposes that “reconciled” Taliban should be removed from the UN sanctions list, BBC reported.
