TEHRAN – Iranian photographer Gohar Dashti is displaying photos from her series “Today’s Life and War” and “Iran, Untitled” in an exhibition at the Australian Center for Photography (ACP).

The photos reveal the complexities of Persian society and the fictional scenes quietly explore how past history and war permeate contemporary social structures, the ACP wrote on its website.

According to Dashti, her “Iran, Untitled” portrays people who are waiting to do different things in deserts, and “Today’s life and War” shows a married couple who try to continue their life in an environment surrounded with war symbols, highlighting the aftermath of war’s impact on daily life.

The exhibit, which opened on April 11, has been arranged by Australia’s Head On Photo Festival in collaboration with the ACP and will run until May 10.

The Head On Photo Festival also plans to display “Iranian Wedding”, a series by Iranian photographer Ramak Bamzar, in an exhibition opening at Sydney Lower Town Hall on May 1.

Iranian artist and lecturer Hoda Afshar will discuss the realities beyond the Oriental representations of Iran based on the works displayed at exhibitions in a session that will be held at the hall on May 3.
