Iran ready for Swiss joint venture in industrial, tourism projects

TEHRAN – Iran is ready for launching joint ventures with Switzerland in industrial and tourism projects, Gholamreza Shafe’i, the chairman of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture, stated.

“We are willing to participate with Swiss companies to implement tourism, mining, food, and medical projects,” the Fars news agency quoted Shafe’i as saying on Monday.

Over the past two years, the administration has developed special plans and has streamlined the process of foreign investment in the country, he noted.

A Swiss business delegation arrived in Iran on Sunday for the first such visit in ten years in a bid to expand trade ties.

The team, comprising executives from the pharmaceutical, energy, and services sectors, was led by Livia Leu, who served as Swiss ambassador to Tehran between 2009 and 2013.

The four-day visit comes after Iran and six world powers agreed on the outlines of a potentially historic deal on Iran's nuclear program after marathon talks in Switzerland early this month.

Leu, the head of bilateral ties at the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco), had said after the deal that this was a ""very propitious"" time to visit the Islamic republic.

Switzerland eased economic sanctions against Iran at the start of last year.

Trade between the two countries amounted to $670 million last year with the balance tipped in favor of Switzerland.
