AMSTERDAM/TEHRAN— The prosecutor investigating the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri has said that he has received new material from Hezbollah, the Lebanese Islamic resistance movement whose members are under indictment.

The prosecutor's office said on Wednesday the material was hand-delivered to Lebanese judicial officials July 13, AP reported.

It said the file had been offered by Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah in a televised speech earlier last month (on July 2), but it did not disclose the nature of the material.

Nasrallah said on July 19 that the resistance movement has never been shaken by Israel and cannot be undermined by the U.S.-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL).

He went on to say that Hezbollah will overcome the international tribunal conspiracy and emerge stronger than before.

“Just like your hopes for the (2006) July war were in vain, your hopes for the Washington-funded STL will also be in vain,” the Hezbollah secretary general said.

In 2007, the UN Security Council passed a U.S.-sponsored resolution authorizing the establishment of an international tribunal to try suspects in the 2005 assassination of Rafiq Hariri.

The STL, based in The Hague, has recently handed over a copy of its indictments in the Hariri case. The indictments are supposedly confidential, but media reports have announced the names, which are said to be members of Hezbollah.

Nasrallah also pointed out that unlike what others are saying, Hezbollah has been dealing with the STL’s indictments calmly and by presenting documents.

“A resistance that was not shaken by the most powerful air force in the region will not be shaken by Bellemare, Fransen, or Cassese,” he added, referring to individuals involved in the STL.
