|U.S. will pay the price if it attacks Syria: Assad||
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has threatened to launch reprisal attacks if the United States attacks his country, saying that in response, the U.S. should “expect every action.”
In a television interview with the CBS network, Assad also denied his government was involved in an incident on August 21 in which chemical weapons were allegedly used.
He said that if the U.S. attacks Syria, in response, the United States “should expect everything” and it will “pay the price” for its actions.
The video of Assad making the comments in the Syrian capital Damascus was aired for the first time on Monday.
Assad also said an attack by international forces may prompt retaliation by Syria’s allies.
He denied that he was behind the alleged chemical weapons attack on the Syrian people and said there was no conclusive evidence that such an attack had occurred.
“There has been no evidence that I used chemical weapons against my own people,” CBS quoted Assad as saying.
The U.S. and France are currently attempting to build an international coalition for a military assault against Syria in response to the alleged chemical weapons attack.
