TEHRAN The Iranian and the OIC special envoys on Afghanistan in Tehran on Thursday emphasized the need for resumption of Afghan peace talks. Alaeddin Boroujerdi of Iran and Undersecretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Ibrahim Bakr expressed regret at the halt in the Afghan peace talks and called for holding negotiations among the rival factions. Boroujerdi said resumption of peace talks is the best way to bring peace to Afghanistan. He said war will come to an end in Afghanistan when all parties admit that assuming power by military force is not possible.

Ibrahim Bakr said the military solution is doomed to failure and there is no way to peace other than reach an inter-Afghan understanding. He said the OIC has assessed as positive the UN-OIC cooperation on Afghanistan and would go ahead with the peacemaking cooperation. (IRNA)
