Death Toll From Heat Wave Rises to 171 in Moscow

MOSCOW Twenty more Muscovites drowned over the weekend, bringing to 171 the number of people who have died during a month-long heat wave, city health officials said Monday. The overwhelming majority of the victims were swimming in dangerous areas and were very drunk, the officials told Russian news agencies. A total of 50 people have died in Moscow over the past week including two who drowned in their bathtubs, ITAR-TASS said, without providing details.
