June 7, 2011
TEHRAN – Army Commander Ahmadreza Pourdastan has said that the Iranian Army is prepared to be present in cyberspace to counter any possible cyber attacks launched by the enemies against the Islamic Republic of Iran.“Today, the modern armies around the world have tried to equip themselves with the required systems and devices to be present in cyberspace,” Major General Pourdastan told IRNA on Monday.
“The Iranian Army is not unfamiliar with cyberspace and has prepared itself for being present in cyberspace,” he said. “The required equipment for this purpose has almost been prepared by the Iranian defense industries.”
He went on to say that the Iranian Army is capable of carrying out both offensive and defensive operations in cyberspace.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Army commander pointed to the issue of the regional security and said that the regional countries are capable of maintaining their own security.
“The presence of foreign forces in the Middle East does not help resolve the issues facing the region but rather can create more problems,” he noted.
