Iran newly-appointed weightlifting head coach Hossein Tavakkoli believes his team’s priority is showing a good performance in 2015 World Weightlifting Championships, which will take place in Houston, Texas, United States from November 20 to 29.

“We have two major events in front of us, one is 2015 World Championships and the other is 2016 Olympic Games. First, we have to book all of the places in the Olympics and then I hope we can grab good medals there,” the 2000 Olympic gold medalist told Iran Weightlifting Federation website.

Tavakkoli also stated that he will prepare two different teams for Asian and World Championships.

“I will not field my first team in the Asian Championships because we have a lot of young weightlifters who can gain a lot of experience in this tournament. On the other hand, the world championships will be held in United States so it will be very important for us to win medals as much as we can,” Tavakkoli said.
