Iran assumes rotating presidency of APSCO council

TEHRAN - The Islamic Republic of Iran has assumed the rotating presidency of the Council of the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO).

During the 9th meeting of the council of the APSCO in Beijing, director of the Iranian Space Organization Mohsen Bahrami was appointed as the chairman of the group, Tasnim reported on Saturday.

The meeting, held by the APSCO and the China National Space Administration (CNSA), focused on Asia Pacific space development, which would be boosted by the ""Belt and Road"" initiative.

On the first day of the forum, Xu Dazhe, APSCO's former chairman who also heads the CNSA, said China had signed agreements on space cooperation with 10 countries along the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

Space administration officials and aerospace specialists from eight countries, including China, Thailand, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Turkey and Indonesia attended the forum.

The APSCO, an inter-governmental organization headquartered in Beijing, was established in 1992 with the aim of improving space cooperation and promoting peaceful behavior in outer space.
