Mashhad library displays Sheikh Bahai manuscripts

TEHRAN – A collection of manuscripts by Sheikh Bahai (1546-1622) and dozens of lithographs donated by the theologian, mathematician, jurist and astronomer of the Safavid era are currently on display in an exhibition at the Astan-e Qods Razavi Library in Mashhad.

The library, which is adjacent to the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS), is home to over 4000 manuscripts by Sheikh Bahai, some of which have been put on display, the Director of the Public Relations Office of the library said in a press release on Sunday.

“The entire collection of manuscripts have been donated by Sheikah Bahai to the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS), and the donation document sealed with his name and signature are also on display,” Mohammad-Javad Qavi said.

According to the deputy director of the library Hojjatoleslam Mohammad-Hassan Nurinia, Sheikh Bahai inscribed a large number of books and booklets on politics, fiqh, mathematics, art, physics and several other topics, and has also composed poetry in Persian and Arabic, most of which are preserved in the library.

“The library is also home to several copies of the holy Quran attributed to Imam Ali (AS), Imam Hassan (AS), and Imam Hussein (AS) and Imam Sajjad (AS), which were donated by Safavid king Shah Abbas (1588-1629), and the donation document has been inscribed by Sheikh Bahai,” he added.

The exhibit, which opened on October 31, will be running until November 6.
