TEHRAN - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has called for cooperation between Iran and Japan in fight against terrorist groups, especially Daesh.

Abe made the remarks in a meeting in Tokyo on Thursday with Ali Akbar Salehi, the Iranian vice president and director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.

The Japanese prime minister also hailed the nuclear agreement between Iran and the major powers, noting it is very important that all sides fully implement the deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

For his part, Salehi said that the International Atomic Energy Agency will announce its assessment on Iran’s nuclear program in mid-December and after that the nuclear deal goes into effect.

“The Agency will announce its assessment of Iran’s peaceful nuclear program by December 15, and we predict that the implementation day would be in late-December,” Tasnim News quoted Salehi as saying.

Salehi also extended President Hassan Rouhani’s invitation to the Japanese prime minister to visit Iran.

According to Press TV, Abe also invited the Iranian president to Japan for a state visit.

The Japanese leader also called for expansion of economic relations with Iran after the implementation of the nuclear agreement. The top Iranian nuclear official also called for expansion of bilateral economic and trade ties with a focus on marketing and joint production.

Salehi also pointed to a joint nuclear statement issued by Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida, welcoming Tokyo’s contribution to establish a planned nuclear safety center in Iran.

In October, Zarif and Kishida issued the statement in Tehran on nuclear safety cooperation and the implementation of the IAEA safeguards.

During the Japanese foreign minister’s visit back then, Tokyo also agreed to help Tehran implement the agreement with the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany).
