Zarif: It’s disastrous to seek military solution to regional conflicts

November 12, 2015

TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said that crises in the Middle East region should be settled through “political dialogue”, noting that seeking military solution to the conflicts is a “disaster”.

“If there are still actors who have the delusion of using military solution to the regional crises, it is a disaster,” Zarif said during a meeting with Tunisia’s Secretary of State for Arab and African Affairs Touhami Abdouli in Tehran on Tuesday.

Zarif also said that there is no restriction to expansion of cooperation between Iran and Tunisia.

For his part, Abdouli said that Tunisia opposes “war and military solution” to the conflicts in the region.

The Tunisian official arrived in Tehran on Monday and met with the Iranian official including Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran’s point man for regional policies.

Iranian First Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi also told Abdouli on Tuesday that Tehran is “serious” to strengthen ties with Tunisia due to friendly relations between the two countries and Tunisia’s approach in settling “fabricated” crises in the region.

The Tunisian official said that the nuclear agreement between Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) proved that Islamic countries can find political solutions to problematic issues.
