Rouhani: World concluded sanctions are not the right option

TEHRAN – President Hassan Rouhani announced on Sunday that the world has reached the conclusion that “path of sanctions are not the right approach and rather it is a lose-lose game.”

Rouhani made the remarks after Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini issued a joint statement in Vienna late on Saturday officially declaring the implementation of the nuclear deal, which was struck in July 2015 between Iran and six major powers.

The implementation day started after the IAEA confirmed Iran has complied with the terms of the nuclear agreement.

The world also welcomed the implementation of the nuclear agreement, officially called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Rouhani said the world has become aware of the fact that Iran can be trusted.

“Today is the day of the Iranian nation’s victory in the political scene,” Rouhani told a press conference.

He added, “The Iranian nation proved that interaction should be constructive. We can interact with the world in a way that benefit our nation and not be detrimental to the others.”

The president also said the nuclear deal will promote the economic development at home and help establish regional stability and security.

Elsewhere, he praised supports provided by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei during the nuclear negotiations with the great powers.

The president also said that implementation of the JCPOA will improve the relationship among the countries in the Middle East region.

Rouhani said that Iran seeks to have friendly relations with the neighboring countries, adding Saudi Arabia has taken a “wrong path” toward Iran.

Elsewhere, he said that Iran will respond if the U.S. violates the terms of the JCPOA.

U.S. President Barack Obama signed on Saturday an executive order to lift sanctions on Iran related to its nuclear program.

--- ‘A new chapter opened in relations with the world’

Rightly after the declaration of the implementation of the nuclear agreement President Rouhani sent a message on Sunday morning to the Iranians felicitating them on the conclusion of the JCPOA.

Today, the official announcement of the implementation of the JCPOA means that the Iranian nuclear program is “ever secured”, the cruel resolutions against the Iranian nation are canceled, Iran's nuclear rights have been accepted by all, and the Iranian economy become a “global” one, he explained.

A new chapter of relations with the world has opened as Iran has accomplished and won the professional and complex negotiations and reached an agreement with the world with dignity, he added.

“Now we have passed behind the dangerous winding road in the economy and still follow the strategy of resistance economy, the strategy which is not against the world economy but in conjunction with it,” he noted.

“Implementation of the JCPOA is not against any country. As friends are happy with it, the rivals also should have no concern about it; because Iran is not any threat to any state or nation. We are also fully prepared to protect the honor of Iran, to defend our country's sovereignty, to be a messenger of peace, stability and security in the region and the world.”

“The victory in the nuclear negotiation is not a factional victory,… and the implementation of the JCPOA is not against any domestic faction or political group, because it is the ending result of all Iranian nation’s resistance, thoughtfulness, well management and will to show the world that it is a people against any war and violence who have chosen logic, negotiation and excellent debate.”

------ ‘JCPOA an opportunity for Iran’

The JCPOA is an opportunity for Iran and this victory has been achieved by people’s resolve and military forces’ authority, Rouhani told the parliamentarians after handing over the next year’s national budget bill and the sixth development plan to the Majlis for ratification on Sunday.

Expressing hope that everybody stand together for country’s development and people’s welfare, he added, “The great Iranian nation stood by its rights and Islamic ideals with patience and resistance and sent their best diplomats to confront the big powers in the most complicated political case of the contemporary history”.

“Everybody is happy about the conclusion of the JCPOA, except for Zionists, those who are seeking division in the Muslim World, and a small extremist group in the United States,” Rouhani remarked, according to the president.ir.

He added, “This success was achieved by all three branches (of the government) and all the pillars of the system, as well as the armed forces; because if they did not guarantee security of the country and it was not peaceful, we would not have been able to become successful in the negotiations”.

“The JCPOA is only a new atmosphere and condition. We should use this atmosphere and condition for the country’s growth and development and people’s welfare, as well as the security and stability of the region; this would not possible unless we all unite with each other”.

“In the JCPOA, no specific faction achieved victory; it is the people of Iran who are victorious. In the JCPOA nobody failed, neither inside the country, not the countries which were negotiating with us” he noted.

Rouhani also said, “The JCPOA will bring about development and advancement, interaction with the world, and coordination in moves for us”.

“After over a decade of resistance from the side of the great Iranian nation to secure their rights and after 2.5 years of difficult negotiations, the unjust sanctions which were imposed on the country and put economy and people’s welfare under pressure are now lifted” Rouhani explained, saying that the nuclear negotiations yielded results with guidance from the Supreme Leader of the revolution, support from people, and help from all the pillars of the system”.

“The victory in the negotiations has also promoted the national self-esteem and created a great socio-political capital for the government which is an outcome of increasing domestic and international credibility and honor,” he opined.

Rouhani described the JCPOA as a turning point in history of the national economy and said, “As new window has been opened for economic interaction with the world, we should get ready to seize the very opportunity to make an economic leap and development”.

“In fact, it is time for government and people to do their utmost to rebuild and improve the national economy, thus any useless disputes which may be a blocking obstacle in the way of people's living, especially while they are facing big economic challenges, is against national interest,” the president pointed out.
