TEHRAN – Hesamoddin Ashena, advisor to the Iranian president, has warned U.S. President Barack Obama against running interventionist schemes against Iran, saying Iran is not Cuba or the former Soviet Union.

“Obama should know that Iran is not Cuba, nor are there any Fidel or Raul. Iran is not the USSR and there is no Gorbachev or Yeltsin,” Ashena wrote on his Facebook wall on Saturday.

However, he said, “Mr. Obama has the ability to put an end to the remnants of the Cold War not only in Cuba, but in the Middle East as well.”
