TEHRAN -- The Iranian composer and conductor Loris Tjeknavorian believes the visitors can hear music when they look at his paintings.

He made the remarks in a press conference held on Saturday at the Iranian Artists Forum in Tehran where his exhibition of paintings will open on April 18, the forum announced in a press release.

“I have created over 100 paintings and asked the forum to display my works to showcase the reflection of my feelings on canvas,” he added.

“I believe all different forms of art belong to one family and are interrelated. I liked music, while our house was filled with posters of the world’s great painters, and I used to wonder how can I change them into music,” he stated.

He noted that this is his third exhibit after his exhibitions in Tehran and Los Angeles, adding, “I am also interested in painting, poetry, cinema and theater besides music.

“I also hope to publish my first book of short stories in the near future,” he added.

He stated that no art form possesses techniques like music. “Music is a piece of paper as long as it is not heard, and I am happy the notes have appeared on canvas in my paintings, and that is why I have named my exhibit ‘Music on Canvas’,” he concluded.

A collection of 30 paintings will be on display in the forum until April 24.

Tjeknavorian has performed throughout the world, having conducted international orchestras in Austria, Britain, the United States, Canada, Hungary, Iran, Finland, Armenia, Thailand, Hong Kong, South Africa and Denmark. 

His own compositions have been performed by major orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, the American Symphony Orchestra in New York and the Tehran Symphony Orchestra.
