Iranian theaters renew schedules to improve box office receipts

TEHRAN – Iranian theaters are renewing their schedules today with three movies to improve box office receipts that declined due to the off-season during the month of Ramadan.

“The Daughter” by Reza Mirkarimi, “Spare” by Borzu Niknejad and “Dracula” by Reza Attaran area scheduled to begin public premiere at movie theaters across the country today.  

Starring Farhad Aslani and Merila Zarei, “The Daughter”  is set in the southwestern Iranian city of Abadan, where Mr. Azizi, an engineer for the Abadan Oil Refining Company, is making arrangements for an engagement party for one his daughters while his other daughter, Setareh, plans to leave Abadan to attend her friend’s goodbye party in Tehran.

“Spare” tells the story of a local football coach who is opposed to his daughter’s plan to marry an injured amateur soccer who is unable to play anymore. Amir Jafari and Rima Raminfar star in the drama.

The comedy drama “Dracula” starring Attaran, Levon Haftvan, Vishka Asayesh and Siamak Ansari is about a vampire who recently arrived in Tehran from nowhere. He is thirsty for blood however by bad luck he bumps into an addicted person. 

Some Tehran theaters hold late-night screenings during Ramadan every year to lessen the loss of box office receipts in the off-season during the month.
