Bulgaria’s Ivan Iliev to conduct Tehran Symphony Orchestra

TEHRAN – Bulgarian musician Ivan Iliev will conduct the Tehran Symphony Orchestra during a concert, which will be held at Vahdat Hall on July 16. 

Iliev, who arrived in Tehran late on Saturday, conducted the orchestra during a rehearsal at Rudaki Hall yesterday. 

The concert is named “Urmia”, after Lake Urmia, the rapidly drying-up lake in northwest Iran.

Pieces by Iranian composer Saeid Sharifian who is also the artistic director of the event will be performed at the concert.

Iliev studied conducting with Michael Esselstrom at Indiana University, Victor Yampolsky at Northwestern University and Julian Shew at Louisiana State University.

He has served as music director and conductor of Indiana University at South Bend Symphony. 

He has conducted the IUSB Philharmonic Orchestra, South Bend Chamber Orchestra, Louisiana State University Symphony Orchestra, Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra and Sofia Chamber Orchestra (Bulgaria).
